Joanie Piluke
If someone asks Joanie if she does photography, her answer is, "sometimes." Managing the Norman Piluke Gallery is her main priority. For years, Joanie devoted her time assisting her husband Norman in the creation and exhibition of his best selling Photographic Art. The experience from the photography trips and the use of different equipment including 35 mm to the large format view cameras helped her a lot.
Learning basic photography at Seneca College and living in the world of Photography with Norman Piluke has been an easier transition to be a photographer. Also having a natural artistic touch, she diverted her art through the lens whenever she gets a chance. When she became confident, she acquired her first medium format, a Mamiya RZ and has thoroughly enjoyed the use of film and darkroom work. Like Norman, she now uses SLR digital camera. Her photography, are also exhibited along with Norman's work in all the exhibitions.
Joanie says, "I always loved nature growing up on the hills of Baguio, Philippines, that is why I completely enjoy photographing the nature. The pleasant air of the outdoors and wild flowers take me back. Whether photographing wildlife or traveling to beautiful historic places in this world, every aspect of our photographic adventure, to printing and finally exhibiting to share the experiences we had are truly the greatest achievement of this exciting endeavor."
She is also an avid birdwatcher and has been enjoying field ornithology for years. It started as a her passion and spotted birds while Norman photographed them. Today you will find her photographing birds side by side with Norman.
Joanie Piluke was born and educated in Baguio City, Philippines and immigrated in Canada in the early 80s.
